What a day! A massive thank you to every member, guest, and returning past member who joined us on July 11th for an absolutely unforgettable Captain’s Day at Old Colwyn Golf Club.

It turned out to be officially one of the hottest days of the year, but the action on the course was every bit as scorching as the temperature!

Hot Golf & Dedicated Volunteers

Despite the heat, the field produced some exceptional scoring across all divisions. An event of this scale doesn’t happen by magic, so we owe a massive debt of gratitude to our dedicated team of volunteers. They worked tirelessly throughout the day—both on the course and in the clubhouse—to make sure everything ran without a hitch.

The Leaderboard

The main competition finished in dramatic style, with a three-way tie at 37 points requiring a card play-off (CPO) to decide the top spots. Congratulations to Simon Hughes, who edged out the field to claim the trophy!

During the evening presentation, the Captain kept his address short, sweet, and focused on what matters most—thanking the volunteers and reminding us all how crucial it is that we make every new member feel warmly welcomed into the Old Colwyn family.

Our runner-up, Mally Hughes, took a slightly different approach—his speech lasted considerably longer than the Captain’s! Once Mally got hold of the microphone, there was simply no getting him off it! 🎤😂

The night was rounded off in true Old Colwyn style with live entertainment, late-night dancing on the floor, and a few well-earned cold drinks on the terrace. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and past members returning to celebrate with us.
